“Feeling seasick today, I can’t write the investigation report, but the higher-ups are pushing for it. In the evening, H said he was a bit busy, so I’ll check on him tomorrow. However, receiving his message still made me happy… Dear H…..all the best, ” Green Island, located off the eastern coast of Taiwan, became known during the Cold War for holding a large number of political prisoners from Taiwan. In 2023, during Candy Bird’s artist residency on Green Island, he combined his personal diary entries about emotional entanglements with the current backdrop of a new Cold War in East Asia to create a fictional love story involving Chinese intelligence officers in Taiwan, transforming it into this video work. In this piece, he uses contemporary dance as a narrative for emotions, integrating diary readings and sound design to convey his thoughts and feelings about love, political prisoners, and the history of human rights.
