Han Chun (Candy Bird)

Candy Bird (Han Chun-Yueh) works with moving images, objects, and spatial compositions to explore how people live within various “gaps” — psychological, linguistic, and political zones shaped by tensions between memory, power, and history. Growing up in post–martial law Taiwan, between the political narratives of China and Taiwan’s democratizing consciousness, Han is interested in the contradictions that construct one’s ideology and has become sensitive what remains difficult to express. This awareness continues to shape his materials and methods—from early site-specific graffiti under the name Candy Bird to more recent works that engage directly with visual and sonic material.
Through site-responsive imagery, blurred cultural symbols, and sound structures that avoid melodic resolution, he creates spatial arrangements that evoke a sense of distant intimacy and quiet unease. These formal strategies reflect his ongoing interest in how memory, identity, and political narratives coexist in tension.
